I've decided to try out the MYHoneyChild products. Since these products got mixed reviews I decided to go conservative and by the smaller sizes.
The products I selected are:

Molasses Hydrating Deep Conditioner $9.00 4oz
Sophia's Herbal Mixture $5.00 2oz
Twist Out! $9.00 4oz
Peppermint Clarifying Shampoo $5.00 4oz
Banana Creme Conditioner $5.00 2oz

Now, I'm no cheapskate but these products are not cheap for the quantity you receive. I understand all natural quality ingredients cost more and I totally support that. Right now I just want to try them and if I like them I'll have no issue with cost.

My goal is to move to totally natural products. My only issue with using natural products is that most contain Coconut Oil. My Hair HATES coconut oil.

My Hair however LOVES LOVES LOVES the following oils:
Olive Oil, Sesame oil, Jojoba Oil and Avocado Oil. And favorite Humectant is HONEY!

Krika, the owner of MYHoneyChild has many products that I want to try that don't include Coconut oil. So, if I like my first round of products I'll go back for more.

April Protective style week #1

I washed my hair with Head & Shoulder conditioning shampoo and Giovanni Smooth as silk Shampoo.
Deep conditioned with: Olive Oil, Sesame Oil, Honey, Giovanni Smooth as Silk Deep Conditioner and Suave Shea Butter Conditioner.

Styling Products: Qhemet Biologics Burdock Root Butter Curls Passion Fruit Hair Paste

I was able to wear this style for one week before washing. My goal is to protect my hair for maximum hair growth. I'll only wear my hair out maybe 2-3 times this month. By OUT I am referring to a TWIST OUT.
And since I just ordered My Honey Child Products I'll have to test it for its Twist out properties LOL!

Protective Style: Mini Challenge

Okay so I failed at my first attempt to wear a protective style for any length of time, But I'm back to try again.

Today I was just not pleased with how my hair was looking. Ever since I cut an inch off my hair, it has not looked right. So I'm at the point where I'm sick and tired of doing my hair. After 3 failed twist outs out of frustration I put in flat twist on the front and sides of my hair and pinned up the back.

Fingers crossed this style will last me for the week. It's 20 degrees outside and my hair is feeling very dry, hopefully this will protect my ends.

I've gone back to my curly hair. I conditioned washed with Olive Oil Mayonnaise conditioner (I forget the brand) and my hair came out very soft.

I used Jane Carters' leave in conditioner spray and KimmeyTube's conditioner.
And I used Afroveda coco latte to twist my hair.

When I took apart my twists they were super soft and defined and I have to say much better than My Jessies Curly Pudding!!.

So I now believe that afro veda will be one of my staple products as well as Jane Carters Leave-in.

I'm am trying to get out of the habit of believing that my hair has to be PERFECT. Sometimes a little messy is cute and I have to take the pressure of myself with trying to make my twist-outs "perfect".
Friday I thought my hair looked crazy because I had a failed twist out (using Miss Jessies Curly Pudding) and I had to sprits my hair into a little fro.
It was fine. No one looked at me funny or even seemed to notice that my hair was not defined w/curls.

My Goal this week is to see if my twist out can last two more days before I have to twist it again. *Fingers Crossed* ooooh what if I can get a week out of it!!!

Yesterday I blow dried my hair so that I could clip my ends and I was said that I had to cut almost 1/2 in of hair...sniff.
But for the most part my hair was very healthy.

Considering I cut ALL my hair off a year ago: AND have cut my hair 2x within that year, I'm pleased with the length. :P
For a minute I thought that I would wear my hair straight for the rest of the winter but then I changed my mind. My hair is very thin and I like the fullness of my natural coils.

Up Next:

The next style I would like to master is Coils and Coil-outs!

Every time I try my hair gets tangles but I'm hoping that since I cut off

my split ends, it will not tangle as much any more.

Review Miss Jessies' Curly Pudding vs. Afroveda

Miss Jessies' Curly Pudding or Afroveda?

Okay, I love the definition of my twists w/Miss Jessis' Curly Pudding, but no matter how chunky I make my twists, when I undo them they are always skinny. Miss Jessies' is great for my hair if I want definition and elongation of my twist so that I can do an Up Do--- but NOT for twists outs.

On Afroveda: yes is leaves my hair a bit greasy (I don't use that much) but I've never had a problem creating a great look with my twist out using Coco Latte Moisture. So I will have to choose Afroveda. Also I never feared how my hair would turn out in the morning w/Coco Latte Moisture because I knew my hair would be fine. Afroveda is a more reliable product on my hair.

With the Curly Pudding, it's hit or miss as to what my hair will look like if I'm going for a twistout. But the twist themselves look AMAZING so Miss Jessies' gets a big thumbs up over Afroveda on that note.

So on based on my results I have to say for twist outs its Afroveda all the way.

For Twists that I want to stay in my Hair its Miss Jessies' curly pudding hands down. It offers more hold.

Quick Natural Facial

Natural Facial

Mix one tablespoon of honey and 2 tablespoons of heavy cream together and apply mixture to face. Leave mixture on for about 3-5 minutes then rinse with lukewarm water. This works wonders to draw out impurities from the skin while hydrating it at the same time!

Hair Routine Changes

My hair products have changed so much since my big chop. It's much simpler now. This new simplicity also comes from the fact that I no longer do wash and goes. Maybe when my hair grows in more I'll go back to doing wash and goes. Maybe I do more next summer when the whether is hot.

Last year I had to do wash and go's all winter and I made a vow that I would not do that again once my hair grew in!!

Right now I'm concentrating on twist-outs and protective styles.

This is my routine:

I wash 1-2's a week with Suave Professionals Shea Butter shampoo and a dandruff shampoo.
I deep condition 2x a week with either Suave Professionals Shea Butter conditioner or Giovanni's 50/50 hydrating conditioner
I rinse my hair with Black or Green Tea (the caffeine helps decrease shedding).
Let my hair air dry and twist (for twist-outs) with either Afroveda's Coco Latte Moisture Mask or Miss Jessies' Curly Pudding. I also as a bit of oil as a sealant.
I try to do scalp massages a few times a week if I can remember!

When I first started twisting my hair, I really wanted to be one of those naturals who did not have to wash their hair for 2 weeks or at least only 1x a week. But my hair needs to be washed and conditioned 2x a week or it gets very dry, flat and over-all looks like crap LOL

I could never do a protective style and not wash my hair for a month or more! I've see so many naturals who can get away with this and it does not damage their hair. This both amazes me and grosses me out at the same time. To each there own I suppose.

Going Natural has been the best decision I've made for myself-- I love my hair!

Six week Hair Challenge

6 Week Hair Challenge
I'm starting a hair challenge with Vanie0295 on YouTube to decrease shedding.
I dyed my hair 3 weeks ago and now my hair is shedding more than usual, it needs some TLC.
The challenge: Wash or Co-Wash my hair 2x a week and follow with a Green or Black Tea rinse and deep conditioner. I'll also be drinking plenty of water and taking vitamin E.
The products I'm using: Suave Shea butter shampoo & conditioner, my oil sealer will be a mix: of Grape seed, sesame and castor oil and some EO's. My rinse will be green tea.
My start Date:11/28/10 through 1/9/11

My hair after washing and coated with conditioner & green tea rinse. Left on for 30mins.

There has to be something to the Tea Rinse because I noticed that I had a marked decrease in shedding as I detangled and twist my hair...YES!!!

Sorry I've been away so long. My computer died and it took a while for me to get a new one. But I'm now the proud owner of a New Apple Imac!!! YES...I'm happy.

On to hair new: my hair has grown a lot in the past 5 months, but curls have been super crazy. I have very fine hair on the sides and top of my head and frizzy hair in the front. My hair was just growing in very crazy and I had more bad hair days than good hair days.
I finally broke down and cut about 2 ins off my hair and now I'm starting over. I really think my hair was not very manageble because I did not have a proper cut. Now my hair is longer on the top and short on the sides, hopefully it will grow in better this time around.
I thought I would be sad to let go of my growth, but I know that my hair will grown back in about 3 months so I'm okay.

Also I had my nose piercing re-done

I like my nose piercing, I think it goes great with my new natural hair.

Update:

Tried new hair regime and it was an epic disaster! The Fantasia gel and Alba styling cream left a bad with residue on my hair and it actually made my curl less defined.

So I washed out the failed hair concoction and just added the Fantasia gel and a bit of Carols daughter lisa's elixir and spritzed with JC leave in Conditioner. Jane Carters product left my hair feeling SUPER SOFT!!!

Maybe my hair just wants to keep it simple with out any fuss. I just hope on day soon my hair and I will come to some sort of agreement that we can both live with!

The journey is definitely teaching me patience and acceptance. My hair is teaching me to accept things how they are and NOT for how I want them to be. Because it just does not work and will only cause frustration and disappointment.

60 days natural

Well It's been almost 60 days since my big chop!!! *cheer*

For the first 45 days, my hair could do no wrong, wash and go and my curls took are of themselves.

Now my hair is filling in a bit and it's not looking as *cute* and "polished" as it did before. My hair is taking on a more; fuzzy and puffy appearance, so I'm changing my hair routine.

At first I could get away with just Aloe Vera gel, however, this is not the case anymore.

Now my routine will include using Fantasia Gel. One of the reasons that I have not used much of this gel is because it dries my hair out. To combat this I'm adding two new products that I hope will get my hair back to all it's glorious cuteness.

The two new products include:

Alba Botanica soft hold style cream (I purchased this on a whim while in Whole Foods Store)
Jane Carter Solution: Revitalizing leave-in conditioner

My plan is to spritz my hair with the Leave-in conditioner then mix the soft hold style cream with my Fantasia gel and a bit of Olive olive and apply to my hair.

Yesterday when I tried the Soft hold on my hair (without any styling gel) it did not seem to make a difference on my hair as far as defining curl but I have to say it really worked well straightening my edges!! JC's Leave-in conditioner did seem to soften my hair a bit.

Today I am treating my hair with my scheduled shampoo and deep condition w/ my Ayurvedic oils and powders. Then I will put my new styling plan into actions.

I believe that my hair should turn out okay today since I'm doing a deep condition I'm more interesting in seeing how these two new products hold up in my everyday line up....... stay tuned!

Good Hair Day

I'm having a Great Hair Day!!!!

It always happens when I have no where to be so this is a privet celebration of hair greatness.

After a little over a month I think I may have a routine.

Daily co-wash Routine:

Coat Hair with Olive Oil
Co-Wash with Trader Joes Spa
Rinse with cool water
Blot Hair Dry with tee shirt (yes, tee shirt not towel. Keeps the fizzies at bay)
Add Quarter size amount of Suave Nautrals (Lilic Scent)
Add a nickel size amount of gel (proclaim is what I have on hand right not)
Air Dry

Night Time Routine:

Massage Alma and Brami Oil into hair concentrating on the thinner spots
Sleep with Satin bonnet

Mid Week Treatment:

Organic Apple Cider and Ayurvedic Herb Rinse (apple cider really makes my curls POP!!!)

Weekly Deep Treatment:

Ayurvedic Treatment w/oils and conditioner

So this is where I'm at right now, like most new Naturals this regime is subject to change!

I originally started this blog as a Hair Journal but the scoop of my interest in Natural Heath has expanded into Ayurvedic Hair and skin care. Actually, I'm interested in using only natural products on my body and hair.

I've made several products in the past that I've sold to friends and family so now I've decided to take things to the next level.

Over the next few months I will be developing and testing several products to use in my new Natural Skin care line.

Some of the first Items that I will be placing on sale include: Salt and Sugar body scrubs, Bath Bomb, Bath Oils and Facial Scrubs and Masks.

My goal will be sell all Natural products with the minimum preservatives and no artificial coloring.

Now that I'm All Natural!

So as you know I've done the "Big Chop" and I'm happy. I did not wake up with the intention of doing a big chop. But my hair was lookinf so horrible with two texture hair. Literally my hair looked like a rats nest, but to be honest I just did not have the patience to transition. Now that the weather is cold, I'm regretting it. But when summer comes I'll have a nice length hair to play with !!

Responses to my hair cut : My co-workers have given me very positive feedback. A few people have commented that I should just keep it this short, because it looks nice. My brother has not been very positive about the cut, but then again I really did not expect him to understand. I'm a little nervous about how my relatives are going to respond. I don't go to a lot of family functions so if they hate my hair, it won't affect my life to much.

Why I went Natural?: Most people who know me, know that my signature style is any form of an "up sweep". My relaxed hair was very fragile and It would break as fast as it would grow not matter how gentle I treated it. I really never enjoyed my hair. I could not use a curling iron on my hair every day and I could not sleep in rollers because they hurt my head and forget about "wrapping" my hair, that just did not work at all. It got to the point that I would put off washing my hair for as long as I could, which was about two weeks. I dreaded doing my hair and because I neglected it during the week (wearing in a pony tail ever day or a bun) when it came to wash day I would experience a lot of breakage. I've had my hair braided, weaved and I even wore wigs and I've always felt fake. I just wanted hair I could rely on. So going natural seems like the logical solution. Whatever grows out of my head is mine and it is what it is. If it's curly today it will be curly tomorrow unless I blow it out. And if someone likes my hair, it feels good because it's MY HAIR. The second reason I went natural is that the chemicals were thinning out my hair. I rather wear an afro than to be bald by the time I'm 50. Being natural and letting my hair be the way God intended feels more Authentic.

How do I feel now that I'm natural? I feel great!! I'm still getting used to having super short hair and I'm also learning what my hair likes and does not like. The experience has really taught me how to be brave and self accepting.

What do I use on my hair? I'm still learning what products work best on my hair, so I'm a bit of a product junkie at the moment. Right now since I conditioner wash every morning I use: Trader Joe's Nourishing Spa conditioner

Giovanni Leave-in Weightless conditioner Carols Daughter Balm mixed with a bit of Proclaim styling gel.

Twice a week I spritz my hair at night and do a 5 min scalp massage with oil.

My oil mixture: Organic EO's (essential oils): peppermint, Rosemary, Eucalyptus, Tea Tree Lavender and Lemongrass mixed with carrier oils: Mango, Aloe Vera, Coconut oil and Avocado oil.

It's been about a month and I definitely have, "hands in my hair" syndrome. I love my hair and the way it feels. Sometimes my curls stress me a bit because I have about 3 different textures of hair, but for the most part it's heaven.

Soy Alternative

I'm a vegetarian and I'm on the go constantly, so it's really hard to get the proper nutrition. What makes this even harder for me is that I cannot tolerate a lot of soy products. Soy has Isoflavones which are also know as Phytoestrogens, because they have a similar chemical structure to the hormone Estrogen.

I'm very sensitive to this chemical and it causes my skin to break out and become really dry. I've also developed scarring on my legs from the dry patches.

Now small amounts of soy are fine for me but I'm a vegetarian and most of the food on the market that are quick contain: Soy.

Even though I know soy is not good for me I've been eating it lately out of convenience and my skin is starting to pay the price.

Yesterday I stopped at whole foods market and found Quorn Prouducts. These products contain Mycoprotien , which is a fungus. Since I love mushrooms and mushrooms are a "fungus" I've decided to give this product a try.

Don't get me wrong, I still am a little grossed out.

Yesterday I was browsing the vegetarian journal on live journal and some people have had reactions to the Mycoprotien, but that is not uncommon with foods.

So, since soy is not a full time food option for me and I have no intention of eating meat I'm going to give this product a try. I'll post a review sometime next week!!!

I've created this blog to act as my hair journal. I'm not using any more chemicals in my hair and I'm keeping heat to a minimum. My goal to to have natural healthy hair.

This blog is a journal to document my progress and also my set backs.

I'll also post any changes I've made to my diet or wellness activities along with the different products that I use to maintain my hair.
